For science, I am reading Alien Oceans by Kevin Peter Hand and Probably Overthinking It by Allen Downey, and I am and attending meetings and lectures about astronomy.
I have spent the first four months of 2025 reviving my Python and SQL skills, which I haven’t used since I retired in 2022. The first project is my Audiobooks tool for tracking the audiobooks I’ve listened to for the past fifteen years. The second project is my Crawler Activity tool for analyzing and presenting data about the web crawlers that are indexing and scraping my two websites.
I have posted recently about what I’ve been learning while working on these tools and on this blog:
- Apache httpd mod_rewrite
- Generating and Installing an ssh Public Key
- Using SQLite3 with Python 3.12 and 3.13
- Python Virtual Environments in a DreamHost Shared Hosting Account
- WSGI and CGI Apps in a DreamHost Shared Hosting Account
- Strip Metadata from Your Photos
- Web Bots and Crawlers
I have started a third project that involves finding and annotating interesting websites in the .science top level domain. This is partly because I’m considering registering a domain in the .science TLD for my own use.
